Law assignment! I am not asking for an answer, just ideas- in regards to Sales of goods act NSW. any advice?
a couple went to 'central adventure tours' a caravan dealer & said they wanted to travel australia. the dealer recomended a van named 'exel' & they took it- as they started travelling the hit a put hole & the axel broke. they discovered the van exel was not designed 4 rough roads but only to sit in a van park..... would they be entitled to any action against the dealer re; sale of goods act, if so what & how-
Would this be different if it was called recreational vehicles pty ltd?
& why do the fair trading acts in various states mirror the trade practices act 1974 (cth)??
I am totally stuck so if any one is knowledgable in this area & can give advice or ideas or a path i should take thatd be great.

It's hard to just give ideas without really giving the answer - you will find that the answer is all about 'fit for purpose' - have a look at your notes about cases concerning how much the couple told the dealer about what they wanted to use the van for before he recommended a particular one. If you follow this line, you will see why it would be slightly different if the company was called 'recreational vehicles pty ltd' - (note that this would also be now under the TPA not the SGA).
The Commonwealth Constitution only gives the Federal Government powers to make laws with respect to particular things - one of these is companies - so the Cth TPA governs companies (eg. ABC Pty Ltd), while the states write similar laws (eg. NSW SGA) to cover all other businesses.
