Maine is one of the states forests in the country, with over 17 million acres of natural beauty, hikes, and summer and beautiful fall foliage scenic drives.
This scenic route through the interior of the state of Maine. A wilderness of thick forests and impressive mountain terrain.
The album is great in summer, but you can not miss the fall foliage season.
The route follows a loop of 218 km west-central Maine, along the Lower North West Moosehead Lake, and runs parallel with the tree of the Kennebec River banks. He is best known in days instead of a day-trip travel and lodging reservations recommended during the fall foliage season popular.
Let's start ...
In the first part of the tour will have its way to the city of Greenville to the southern tip of Moosehead Lake. Start dates in the town of Skowhegan by taking Route 150 and Route 151 to Athens. Follow Route 151 west of Newport, where you take Route 7 to Dover-Foxcroft.
Take Route 6 to Guilford, then follow the path north to Greenville 15.6.
At Greenville stop and relax a little. Greenville is a center for those are looking for hobbies of hunting, fishing, hiking and boating in the region. It also has a number of attractions in the region.
One of the attractions as is the 110-foot SS Katahdin a popular steamboat cruises Moosehead Lake during the summer and through fall foliage. Leave the center of Greenville.
A trip of 20 miles east of Greenville takes you to the beautiful Gulf Whatever. This is a great gorge 3 miles in length, with waterfalls, waterfalls, deep wells and the vertical walls 300 feet high in places. The increase is particularly picturesque in the fall foliage. For the dissemination of this scenic route for several days is a must-do interesting.
The Greenville area also boasts splendid hikes along the fence by the Appalachian Trail.
If you are planning to stay overnight then Greenville offers the best opportunity for housing.
Overview The way to continue the path from 15/06 Big Squaw Mountain Ski Area and the left, and winding along the shore of Moosehead Lake to the village of Rockwood. Once at Rockwood you see through the mighty waters Mount Kineo with its cliff that rises 700 feet above the deepest point in Moosehead Lake.
Follow Route 6 / 15 and head west to Jackman. This portion 30 miles of scenic wilderness is all Maine. Look for opportunities to stop enjoying the summer or points of view fall foliage in the hills and lookouts in the lakes and ponds along the road.
Just south of Jackman Road 15.06 will contact Highway 201 and follow Route 201 south to the forks along the way National Scenic.
Jackman is a Canoe and Kayak Center, famous for the 42-mile Moose River Bow Trip. The canoe trip takes two days or more and is a favorite of outdoor enthusiasts. This is a rare wild kayaking in the northeast, and tours are conducted by local operators.
Continue on Route 201 South The Forks where the Kennebec and Dead rivers meet. The Forks is base for popular and large great rafting trips on both rivers.
A few miles West Fork is Moxie Falls, one of 90 feet of the tallest waterfalls in New England.
The scenic route continues south on Route 201 to Bingham. This stretch of road follows the Kennebec River through Caratunk, offering magnificent views of the river and the surrounding hills, and is one of the best sections of the fall foliage on this tour.
Follow Route 201 back to Skowhegan to complete the tour.
